Your journey into the world of graphic novels begins here with databases, websites, image collections, and other sources you may need when reading or studying graphic novels. See what new Graphic Novels are added for your reading enjoyment and yes, even as a teaching resource. The graphic novel collection is located on the second floor NW corner.

PLEASE NOTE: Although an attempt is made to screen all graphic novels added to the Malone collection, some may still contain adult content in words, meaning and images. If you are using graphic novels in the classroom, you may want to check the content first for appropriateness. A ratings guide, similar to that found on video games, is located at the end of the Graphic Novel shelf. Labels are placed on books accordingly! Click on the "At Cattell Library" tab for more information on ratings.

Comic Art in Scholarly Writing A Citation Guide
The maturation of comics scholarship requires attention in an area heretofore neglected. Bibliographic citation, one of the hallmarks of scholarly writing, Comic books are particularly troublesome, as they incorporate aspects of both books and periodicals. Established citation manuals do not allow for the bibliographic uniqueness comics represent. Further, while established style guides may maintain that their primary aim is to establish credit, the primary aim of comic art citation is to provide location information: assisting those who wish to track down the cited source. Credit, if only because of its potentially convoluted complexity, is secondary. The Comic Art and Comics area of the Popular Culture Association, having recognized and wrestled with these concerns for several years, has established the following criteria for citing comic art.
