ABOUT THE LIBRARY

As a member of the OPAL (Ohio Private Academic Libraries) consortia and OhioLINK, we offer access to literally thousands of peer-reviewed journal articles and eBooks, and through the library’s interlibrary loan program, reciprocal borrowing of more than 46 million items amongst 121 libraries in the state! SearchOhio, a partner with OhioLINK, makes over 16 million public library items available to the communities served by the 28 library systems (188 branches in all)!

The library houses special collections which include archival materials from the university’s beginnings as the Cleveland Bible College and various artifacts from the Evangelical Friends Church-Eastern Region, including mission materials and records of different communities within the EFC-ER. We also have curriculum materials; a children’s collection, which includes Caldecott and Newbery Award-winning books; a Friend’s library and a Graphic Novel collection. In addition we offer a full range of reference services including guides and tutorials to help you find what you need.

And, if you let us know about your departmental programs or guest speakers, we will order relevant library resources and create displays to highlight your events.

Affordable Learning

We'll work with you and OhioLINK to find materials that will be free or of lower cost for your students.

Affordable Learning Ohio is OhioLINK's series of initiatives to lower the cost of college for Ohio higher education students by assisting our member libraries and campuses in identifying strategies for Open and Affordable Learning textbook and course material adoption, and helping locate statewide shareable library materials as well as open educational resources that are no cost or lower cost to students. Copyright and Fair Use Assistance

While we are not copyright attorneys, we can help point you in the direction of some useful tools and resources to help you comply with U.S. copyright laws.

Library Instruction

Malone’s librarians are happy to work with you to support our students as they learn to find, evaluate, integrate, and cite appropriate resources. Your classes are welcome here or we can visit your classroom virtually or in person. In addition to general orientations we can provide citation sessions, tutorials on evaluating materials, and class research days. Many students are too intimidated to ask for help, so we appreciate your encouragement to your students to come to us for individual assistance with finding, using and citing sources.

Avoiding Predatory Journals

Google Scholar doesn’t discriminate between valid journals and those with questionable practices. We can help you determine where to publish your research, decide which editorial boards are worthy of your name, and discover whether the research you use has been appropriately reviewed

Specialized Course Guides

We can create online reference guides for your individual course or for more general subjects. Check out these examples and many more already in use under Course/Research Guides.

Electronic Theses and Dissertation (ETD)

Honors and graduate students can publish their theses in OhioLINK’s ETD. An ETD submission is accessible to scholars around the world and provides an impressive entry on a student’s resume.

Access

Your regular Malone login will grant you access to any of our databases, e-books, online journals, or streaming videos.

You'll need your Malone barcode to checkout physical items or to order from another university through our shared OhioLINK catalog. Your barcode is found on your Malone ID or on the faculty tab in Malone XPress.

We invite you to visit us in person, call, email, or connect with us through chat during any of the library's hours. We have a librarian and/or professional staff person on duty whenever the doors are open.
